Día de los Muertos
Día de los Muertos was the second project we did in this class. We had to choose a relative or pet that had been close to us and died to do the project on for Day of the Dead. We had to write a couple of paragraphs about that person or pet in regards to what they were like and something memorable about them. We also made visual pieces of them, displaying them as skeletons, as is traditional for day of the dead art.
My dog Scooby: Writing Piece:

In this image, I had taken a picture of a Golden Retriever, as is the breed Scooby was, because we had no actual pictures of him. I then Photoshopped a skull to decorate it a bit, and warp the teeth to make the skull more doglike. After having created a skull, I layered it on the dog, and added a transparency and filter to make it seem more fitting. In addition, I warped the skull to the dog's face, leading up to my final product.
Project Reflection
The Day of the Dead has always been something I've known about, and have been aware about, but never have I really delved into the idea of Day of the Dead. It was very interesting to learn about it, through a series of videos and analysis of pieces of art. I understand, now, that Day of the Dead actually takes place over the course of a few days. On the last day of Day of the Dead, people celebrating the holiday believe that the spirits of the deceased come and partake in enjoying the feast and celebration of Day of the Dead. To be completely honest, though, I don't know if I believe that the spirit of my dog, Scooby, would have actually come and joined me for the celebration if I had celebrated Day of the Dead with my family.
