The Street Law Mini Project
The Street Law Mini Project was, in the simplest of terms, a project in which students were expected to demonstrate knowledge involving how to deal with a police officer on the road. Students were also expected to include understanding of the 4th amendment to the Constitution. The essential question that guided us through the project was: How do we balance the need for personal privacy (liberty) with the need to keep a safe, orderly, and just society?
Anthony and I decided to go with DUI checkpoint brochures, because we mutually decided DUI checkpoints would be a good subject to cover, given that there is a lot of grey area when it comes to legality of interactions between police officers and citizens at DUI checkpoints.I became especially interested in the idea of doing the project on DUI checkpoints after having seen the video I've linked below. Justification for the police officers' actions seems a bit shady throughout the video, and it's hard to understand, at points, what the man in the car could have done better to keep himself out of such a scenario.

If I could explore this project further, I guess I would read further articles related to Colorado checkpoint law enforcement, as well as articles about DUI checkpoints in other states across the US. I think it would be interesting to see where the Constitution does and does not apply.
